How the pieces work togetherInstructions for your assets.
Resources for your family.
A living trust and life insurance address different parts of planning. A trust can provide instructions for assets it holds. Life insurance can provide a death benefit under its policy terms. One does not automatically take care of the other.
For example, imagine a family has a home and an outstanding mortgage. Their estate plan may address who manages or receives the property. Their insurance review may address whether the people left behind would have funds to manage the mortgage and other expenses. Both conversations need to account for the family’s circumstances.
That is why it helps to review the full picture after buying: how your home is titled, what documents you already have, whom you have named to act or receive benefits, and how much financial protection is in place.
Start with a review, not an assumption.
If you already have a trust or insurance policy, bring that information to the conversation. Ask what still fits your needs and which questions should go to an attorney or insurance professional. A new home, a new mortgage balance, or a family change can be a useful prompt to revisit your plan.
